AMORPHOBE ™ FILTER PRECOAT

How & why to pre-coat filters

It has always been good practice to protect newly installed filters, both bag and cartridge styles, with the application of a precoat. The basic principal behind the process is to help reduce the chance of premature blinding, and to improve collection efficiencies.

Initially developed for cartridge filter applications, AMORPHOBE™ has proven to be very successful in notoriously difficult situations such as welding and laser cutting, where the product collected is an oily, sticky fume.
Regular fabric baghouses have also benefited from an application of AMORPHOBE™ where steamy or high moisture content fume has previously blinded bag filters.

Depending on the application and the product being collected, there are a selection of precoat products available ranging from powdered cellulose, lime, pearlite through to the more specific, problem solving precoat AMORPHOBE™.

AMORPHOBE ™ is a fine white powder, and has the unique property of being extremely hydrophobic. Because AMORPHOBE ™ has an affinity for itself, the particles tend to cling together in small porous groups on the surface of the media, and not get pulled right through. This has the effect of dramatically improving the initial efficiency of the filter unit with a minimal effect on air flow.

The hydrophobic property of AMORPHOBE ™ encourages the release of damp or sticky product from the filter media.

Unlike other precoat products, a single pound of AMORPHOBE ™ goes a long way, treating 400-500 square feet of filter area.
